Class Guidelines:

As there is limited space available in our classroom you must reserve your spot by signing up and paying the class fee. Our instructors reserve this time to be with you and we need to be sure that they get paid for their time.  Call Sage Yarn - 508-457-9513 to sign up!

Class fees are not refundable unless the class has been canceled by the TEACHER prior to the class date.

Students, you receive a 10% DISCOUNT on yarn supplies for your classes!

While we understand that many people have a large yarn stash at home, please use only "Sage" yarn for classes taught at Sage. 
 We appreciate your continued support of our little local yarn store!

Crochet Classes

Crochet with Jane – Intro to Crochet, and Step-Up Crochet
Pick one or several:
Wednesdays: September 29th, October 13th, October 20th
Saturdays: October 9th, October 16th, October 23rd

If you’ve always wanted to learn crochet, or know the basics and have a burning desire to learn more, Jane’s classes are for you! You can sign up for ANY date or dates you like, since she’ll tailor her class to your skill level. When you sign up let us know if you’re a beginner (Intro) or intermediate (Step-up).

Intro to Crochet: Learn the basics of crocheting. It’s fast, fun and easy! In a few hours you’ll learn the basic stitches and crucial information about hooks & yarn for any given project. With this newfound knowledge you can make items such as simple baby blankets, afghans, scarves, home décor items, etc.   Important ‘hand-outs’ full of terms, pattern ideas and internet sites are included. Join us!
Step-up Crochet:
If you know how to chain and single crochet but are intimidated by the language and techniques of crochet, join us for a couple of hours. Crocheting has made a huge comeback! With all the incredible fiber options now a days, acrylic granny squares in bright colors are a thing of the past. In a few hours together we will create an adorable accessory purse using creative stitches and fibers.   To see a photo of the purse, click here.
Materials required:
Sage Crochet Class Combo = one skein of beautiful worsted weight yarn and hook to match. Cost depends on which yarn you pick. Stop by today!

Tunisian Entrelac Hat with Josh

Two, 2-hour sessions
Saturday afternoons, November 13th & 20th 1-3pm
Combining two of the hot fibercraft trends, Entrelac and Tunisian method crochet, learn how to make an entrelac stocking cap using a standard size crochet hook.  NO TUNISIAN HOOK REQUIRED.  To see a photo of the hat, click here.

You will learn: Tunisian simple stitch, Tunisian "In the Round" and how to increase and decrease using this fun and easy to learn stitch pattern.
Materials:
1 skein cat 3, worsted weight yarn, around 185 yds. to be used as main color, 1 skein cat 3, worsted weight yarn, around 185 yds to be used as a contrasting color, Size I 5.50mm crochet hook, preferably with a smooth throat (no thumb grip), Crochet kit (tape measure, scissors, yarn needle), Pattern provided by instructor.

Amigurimi with Josh
One 2-hour session
Saturday, Oct 30th, from 1-3pm
"ami-what-now?" Amigurimi is the popular Japanese art of creating stuffed miniatures. This class will teach you the basic patterns and methods for creating your own collection of adorable critters. Kawaii!  To see a sample of an Amigurimi figure, click here.

Crochet Lace Made Super Simple with Josh
Two 2-hour sessions
Wednesdays, November 3rd & 10th, from 5:30-7:30pm
You too can produce breathtaking crocheted lace faster than you think! Using DK weight yarn and the right size hook, participants can make a lacework shawl in no time at all.

Knitting Classes

Learn to Knit - No Scarf Required with Kate
Pick one or both:

Learning to knit doesn’t have to mean making scarves. Join us for our four hour Beginner Knitting Class. In this small, laid-back class you will learn basic knitting skills while making a hat. The class will cover the knit and purl stitches, basic increasing and decreasing, tips for pattern and yarn selection and basic finishing techniques. We are relaxed and fun – come join us!
Materials: Sage Beginning Knitting Class Combo = one to two skeins of beautiful worsted weight yarn and needles to match, 16” Size 8 circular needle, set of 5 Size 8 double pointed needles, and 10 stitch markers. Stop by today to pick out your supplies!

Basic Ribbed Hat with Carol
Two sessions – Sundays, October 17th & 24th, 12-2pm
Learn to knit in the round using a circular needle and a set of 4 double pointed needles. Once mastered, you can use this skill for anything round! A basic hat is the stepping stone to mittens, sleeves, socks, cowls, bags and many more projects.  To see a photo of the hat, click here.

You will learn: knitting in the round, purling (if you need a refresher), decreasing, using double pointed needles
Materials:
One skein of Berroco Peruvia, Size 9 circular needle, 16" length, one set of size 9 double pointed needles

Felted Mittens with Carol
Two 2-hour sessions – Sundays, November 7th & 14th, 12-2pm
Let Carol guide you through your first pair of felted mittens. Knit something fit for a GIANT hand and then shrink it to a cozy, sturdy mitten.  To see a photo of our sample mitten on Jen's hand, click here.

Learn about:
knitting in the round, managing large needles, making a thumb, decreasing, felting tips and techniques.
Materials: 2 balls of Plymouth Galway, Ultra Alpaca or Lamb’s Pride Worsted, Size 11, circular needle 16" length, one set of size 11 double pointed needles

Bella’s Mittens with Mindy
Two 2-hour sessions - Wednesdays – 5:30 – 7:00pm, October 20 and 27

You will learn:
knitting in the round, following a written pattern, making cables, decreasing, making a thumb
Materials:
Two skeins of chunky weight yarn, about 200 yards total. We recommend Peruvia Quick! Size 8 double pointed needles, set of 4 OR a size 8 circular needle at least 32” in length for magic loop method.

Lace Knitting with Hege
Two 2 hour sessions - Thursdays 4 pm - 6 pm, Oct. 21 and 28
Sharpen Your Lace Skills - For beginning and intermediate lace knitters
You will knit a sampler scarf to build lace knitting skills.  The sampler starts with easy lace stitches and shows how patterns build on each other to become more complex looking lace. 
Learn about: The basic building blocks that make up knitted lace; Reading charts and instructions; Casting on and binding off lace; The various types of knitted lace fabrics; Modifying lace patterns; Make a knitted-on border; Correcting mistakes; Finishing lace.
Materials: Any smooth, solid, light-colored fingering weight yarn. Wool and wool-blends are more elastic than other fibers and therefore easiest to work with.
Needles any size between 3 - 4 mm (US 3 - 6), Locking stitch markers or safety pins or small length of contrasting yarn, Tapestry needle, Small crochet hook.
Class fee:
$60,

Fair Isle Knitting with Hege
Two 2 hour sessions - Thursdays 4 pm - 6pm, Sept 30 and Oct 7
Learn how to knit fair isle (or stranded) technique using two colors per row!  You will be making a bag in a Norwegian pattern to practice the techniques.  The pattern includes instructions for either a black and white or a multi-color version.
Learn about: Knitting in the round with double-pointed and circular needles; Reading charts for color knitting; Achieving correct tension; Changing colors; Yarn and color dominance; Securing floats; Correcting mistakes; Finishing stranded knits.
Materials: Worsted weight yarn:  200 yds each of two colors, OR 100 yds each of four or more colors, Circular (16 in/40 cm) needle and/or set of double pointed needles.  We recommend something woolly like Lamb's Pride Worsted, Galway or Peruvia.
Class fee:
$60, due when signing up

Felted Clogs with Jen
Two 2-hour sessions - Wednesdays, 1-3pm, December 1st and 8th
A guided tour of the infamous Fiber Trends Felted Clogs leaflet pattern. This pattern produces excellent results that always impress – they look like “real” clogs! Let Jen help you navigate through the short rows, shaping and joining rows on your way to successful slippers.  To see a photo of a pair made from this pattern and using Plymouth Galway, click here.

Worsted weight feltable yarn - Plymouth Galway, Berroco Ultra Alpaca, Brown Sheep Lamb's Pride Worsted - Jen will help you pick out yarn according to your size, size 13 circular needle, 24” length

Christmas Stocking
Two 2-hour sessions - Sundays, November 28th & December 12th, 1-3pm
Get started knitting intarsia and get a jump on your Christmas stocking at the same time! Knitting pictures into your projects requires just a few skills and a bit of practice for consistency.
Materials:
one Stocking Kit in the design of your choosing, size 8 needles OR your favorite stocking pattern and the yarn/needles called for (Yankee Knitter and Ann Norling have some great ones)
Class Fee:
$50, due when signing up

Finishing Help for Knit projects, with Jen
By appointment - $10 an hour
Please call or email for available times - email is best, because I can check it from home.
I’ve spoken with a lot of people lately who just hate finishing. I like it! Let’s get together to get some things finished. Bring whatever project you’ve stalled out on and get it done in the company of new friends. I’ll be there to demonstrate techniques and lend a hand.
Materials:
bring your project and supplies like extra yarn from your project, stitch markers, darning needles, scissors, any needles listed in your pattern and the pattern itself.
Class fee:
$10 an hour, due after class is complete based on class length

Great American Aran Afghan Knitalong
First Sunday of the Month, please check calendar
Knit along with friends and Jen – the Great American Aran Afghan features cabled squares with intricate designs at varying knitting levels. Relax with us as we knit through our squares, and eventually, put them all together into a wonderful afghan.
